- General DiscussionThere are five primary types of skin, but each skin type has its own unique set of characteristics that affects your skin's look, feel and complexion. It’s important to keep this in mind when picking out your products and forming your own skincare ritual. • 5 primary skin types: • Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination (both oily and dry skin) and Sensitive NORMAL SKIN • “Normal skin” is balanced - It’s not too dry or too oily. People with normal skin have small pores and a smooth texture. It is not prone to breakouts and/or acne, and is less prone to blemishes or skin sensitivity. DRY SKIN • Dry skin produces less natural oils than the other skin types. It may feel tight and generally appears dull, flaky, and textured (rough, scaly, etc.) These factors may be accompanied by itching and redness and in more serious cases, cracking - leaving your skin exposed to more bacteria. OILY SKIN • Oily skin is a result of the overproduction of sebum (an oily secretion). With this skin type, skin appears bright or shiny, acne and blackheads are common and the pores are normally larger and more visible. While it is frequent in teenagers or young adults, it’s not totally uncommon for people over 30. COMBINATION SKIN • Combination skin has characteristics of both dry and oily skin, it's generally based on location. With combination skin you may experience dry and oily spots and/or you may experience breakouts and dryness at the same time. I know personally my skin is more oily in the summer and drier in the winter, so I have to switch my routine up a little based on these changes. • The T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) is usually more oily. The cheeks and jawline may be dry or normal. • This could also be the reason your makeup looks patchy. SENSITIVE SKIN • Sensitive skin is easily irritated as a result of its fragile state (sensitive skin is fragile skin). People with sensitive skin usually experience feelings of discomfort, irritation, excessive heat, tightness, redness/inflammation, and possible itching. Over time this skin type loses its protective barrier making it easier for sources of skin irritants to enter causing discomfort, allergic reactions or possible infection. • Note while it is often mentioned as a skin type on its own; it is possible to have dry sensitive skin, oily sensitive skin, or normal sensitive skin as well. Here are just a few important notes to consider when caring for your skin. Hopefully this helps when you're considering different skincare products or maybe it'll help you ask the right questions. Always consult with a medical professional or dermatologist when/if necessary. The information I share is always educational and for informational purposes and does not substitute professional medical advice or consultations with healthcare professionals,Like
- General DiscussionThe clay used in clay masks are different types of soil, sediment, or volcanic ash naturally available in small particles. They are normally rich in magnesium, quartz, iron, calcium, and other minerals. How it Works Clay works by pulling out toxins and minimizing excess sebum (excess sebum combined with dead skin cells can form a plug inside of your pores, resulting in blackheads and pimples.) There are so many different kinds of clay, Purple Brazilian, Red Kaolin, White kaolin, Yellow Brazilian, fullers earth, sea clay … I could go on and on (You will find several of these different kinds of clays used in our face masks) and they each have their own different benefits. Clay Mask Benefits This doesn’t even begin to list them all but here are a few! Mild acne prevention Unclogs pores Balances sebum Calms inflamed or irritated skin Soothes sunburned skin Detoxes' the skin from impurities and dirt Clay by Skin Type Green clay Known for absorbing excess oil and purifying the skin, it can be a little too harsh for sensitive and dry skin types but is great for normal - oily or breakout-prone skin. (You may have seen “illite” “Sea Clay” or “French Green Clay”.) Kaolin Clay Known to be one of the most gentle of the clays, and it’s the most suitable for sensitive or dry skin (white clay). • It also comes in a few different hues (previously mentioned) like red, purple, pink, or yellow and they each have their own benefits • Red - Generally suitable for any skin type (combination, dry, oily, sensitive, etc.) • Yellow - Best for combination skin • Purple - Best for dry skin • Pink - Sensitive or dry Skin Bentonite Clay Bentonite is perfect for absorbing oils and dirt deep in the skin and is great for oily skin types. • Please note : If you have sensitive skin, this could cause irritation! Rhassoul Clay Known to remove excess dirt and sebum, allowing your pores to breathe and is great for oily, acne prone skin. Brazilian Clay Known to improve the skin’s firmness and elasticity and is generally great for all skin types. As always, do your own research and reading before trying any new product or ingredient. - General DiscussionAhhh wellness! It is probably a word you see being thrown around often, especially online. Well, let’s get into it a little and talk about what wellness is and how we can be more mindful of all the pieces. There are 8 pieces involved in the whole make-up of the “wellness wheel” - all different, all very important. There’s the emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual well being. With so much information available to us, I’ll try to shorten it as much as possible. 1. Emotional wellness comes down to your approach to life (consider your perspective) and how you handle everyday stressors. When considering emotional wellness, think about your ability to seek and accept help - maybe you’re dealing with anxiety and/or depression; the activities you participate in - that encourage and reinforce your approach; and overall balance - what makes you happy and what does this look like day to day. 2. Environmental wellness speaks to your connection and awareness (or lack thereof) regarding the environment (as a whole) and your own space. Things that may come to mind when considering your environmental well-being are accessibility, sustainability, nature and creating safe and nurturing environments. 3. Financial wellness can feel difficult to achieve - it’s hard to feel peace when your finances aren’t in order. It’s important to do things like not living beyond your means, track your expenses, build good credit, and establish overall healthy money management. 4. Intellectual wellness is all about both brain stimulation and rest. A challenged brain is a happy brain, but rest and recovery are both important for critical thinking and creativity. Make sure you are challenging yourself with something new; expose yourself to different places and ideas; read a book; engage in healthy debates, and be aware of your own boundaries and values. 5. Occupational wellness: Consider engaging in work that is meaningful to you and being apart of something you can feel proud of. It’s important to pursue career paths that support your goals and professional growth while creating or keeping a healthy balance between your professional/personal lives. 6. Physical Wellness is pretty straight to the point - this speaks to your physical health. It involves getting to know your body and what it needs for health, healing and energy. A balanced diet, consistent movement and proper sleeping habits are really important here. Health is wealth. 7. Social wellness is building and maintaining trusting, respectful and authentic relationships with friends and family (yes, family too). Don’t forget about yourself here! It’s important to engage in relationships and spaces where you feel safe and considered and overall, where you can just be yourself. 8. Spiritual wellness is understanding and connecting to a deeper meaning of life. Explore your spiritual core; take some time to reflect and meditate on what matters the most to you. Make moves with purpose and intention - Always.Like
